Local Red Cross leader helping Iowans

SANDUSKY — The region's American Red Cross leader decided to join a flood relief effort in Iowa. Due to flooding caused by torrential rains several weeks ago, Red Cross personnel have worked to support those impacted. This would include Todd James, executive director for the American Red Cross of North Central Ohio. James will serve as the assistant director of external relations, helping to coordinate efforts from partners on different levels, including locally, statewide and federally. He will also help to assist families in their recovery. There have been significant losses for the victims of the Iowa flooding who need help. According to the Red Cross, more than 320 Red Cross responders have: • Provided nearly 4,000 overnight shelter stays with partners • Served more than 57,000 meals and snacks with partners • Given out nearly 26,000 relief supplies to more than 1,500 households • Reached an estimated 4,600 individuals with relief and recovery services, including financial assistance Meanwhile, Red Cross volunteers are also in Texas, responding to last week's devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl.
