River Fest returns this weekend

HURON — The Huron River Fest returns this weekend. This year's festival occurs from Friday through Sunday in and around the Huron Boat Basin, 330 Main St., Huron. More specifically, here's the day-by-day schedule: • 5-11 p.m. Friday; This day features the queen's competition at 6 p.m. and fireworks over the Huron River at 10:15 p.m. • 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday; This day features a 5K at 8:30 a.m. and a fun run at 9:15 a.m. and the parade at 11 a.m. • 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday; This day features a Touch-a-Truck event at 11 a.m. along with performances by Huron High School's cheerleaders and show chor beginning at 1 p.m. People can also expect live entertainment, vendors, games and more on all three days. But, due to complications with the festival's ride vendor, this year's River Fest won't include carnival-style rides. River Fest coordinators apologized for any inconvenience. "The Huron River Fest committee is looking forward to another year providing the community with family-friendly entertainment," said William Biddlecombe, River Fest's main organizer and a Huron city council member. "From a wide variety of food to a packed schedule of entertainment, there should be something for everyone throughout the weekend." Biddlecombe then made a plea to community members attending the River Fest and other local festivals this year, namely Cold Creek, Basket Fest and the Melon Fest.
