Hayes Presidential, NAACP partnering for Juneteenth

FREMONT — Hayes Presidential will host an art show focused on the impact of Juneteenth. From 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums, in Spiegel Grove, will host an art show to celebrate Juneteenth. The art will focus on what Juneteenth means to area teens. The art show will take place in the museum auditorium. There will be refreshments available, and the artists will be present to discuss their work. Artwork on display will be created by local teens as part of the Fremont chapter of the NAACP. "We're so thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with the NAACP's Juneteenth 2024 Celebration," said Alina Hart, Hayes Presidential education coordinator. "By teaming up for this event, we hope to create an open space where youth can take ownership and have a voice in their history and heritage sector." In addition to the artwork, the Teen Museum Council will host exhibits throughout the museum. The exhibits focus on President Rutherford B. Hayes' law career, First Lady Lucy Hayes' fashion and historic music. Council members will also host a tour through the first floor of the Hayes' house focused on the life of Lucy Hayes. Visit rbhayes.org for more information. More events planned Fremont's NAACP chapter is hosting more events for Juneteenth, representing a total five days of celebration. Festivities started Wednesday with a "Lunch and Learn" event at the Sandusky County YMCA, which focused on Black voices in America's Reconstruction period. Here are the remaining slate of events for the week:Thursday From 5:30-7:30 p.m., the organization will host its Juneteenth Scavenger Hunt and Celebration. The scavenger hunt will begin at Birchard Library, 423 Croghan St. and end at the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library and Museums, Spiegel Grove. Friday After the scavenger hunt, attendees will have the opportunity to make Juneteenth-inspired art on Friday. From 5-7 p.m., the organization will host a community baseball game at Rodger Young Park, 1111 Tiffin St. The event is a tribute to the history of Black baseball players. Saturday From noon to 4 p.m., the NAACP will host a community celebration at Birchard Park, 1400 Birchard Ave. There will be games, music, vendors, a car show and more.
