Restaurant sees early success

SANDUSKY — It has been nearly six months since What the Fried Rice opened its doors to the public in downtown Sandusky. And, based on its early success thus far, the biggest question on the minds of management: When could they further develop and where in the city? "We want to expand as much as we can," said Aubrie Runyan, co-owner of the business. She and co-owner Li Yu also run the restaurant's original location in Northwood, Ohio, near Toledo. Just like there, in Sandusky — at 186 E. Market St., across from Value City Furniture — What the Fried Rice offers guests cook-to-order dishes made with fresh ingredients for fried rice, noodles, ramen, stir fry and various appetizers. The menu also includes gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options. Since debuting in January, both have fallen in love with Sandusky and their storefront. "Everyone has been so nice and welcoming," Runyan said. "We have been through a bunch of different cities, and we love the slower pace." Both have expressed interest in opening additional locations across the city. They also could add a bar in the downtown spot. People can visit What the Fried Rice from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
