School honored for financial reporting

CASTALIA — Townsend Community School was, once again, recognized for its success in financial reporting. The Castalia-based school recently received an Auditor of State Award from state auditor Keith Faber. This award recognizes impeccable financial reporting in the 2023 fiscal year, according to a release from the state auditor's office. This is the second consecutive year that the school has achieved this honor. Townsend Community School is a school that specializes in dropout prevention and credit recovery, serving students in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Sandusky and Seneca counties from ages 14-21. Lori Brodie, a liaison for the state auditor's office, presented the award to school treasurer Kelsey Kromer at a recent school board meeting. In order to be recognized for this award, a school district or government entity must carry out timely financial reports with the state auditor's office; have an audit report free of any findings for recovery material citations, material weaknesses significant deficiencies single audit findings or questioned costs; and have no comments related to ethics referrals in its management letter. Townsend board president Jean Smith and the other members of the board thanked Kromer and assistant treasurer Betty Schwiefert for playing a fundamental role in the school's financial achievement.
