Long John Silver's coming to Huron

HURON — A popular fast-food restaurant intends to open in a spot once home to a competitor within the industry. Those representing Long John's Silver recently submitted plans to set up shop where a vacant structure sits, 2018 Cleveland Road W., in Huron beside a Shell gas station near McDonald's. Burger King previously operated from this site, leaving in 2016, which has remained vacant ever since. Long John's Silver, a chain specializing in seafood, should bring its full menu to Huron when opening this location. This would include popcorn shrimp, hush puppies and pacific cod sandwiches. Some years back, Long John's Silver served people in a building off Milan Road (U.S. 250) within Taco Bell. It shuttered and hasn't had a presence anywhere around the area since. In fact, the closest Long John Silver's to the local area can be found in Lorain, Elyria and Tiffin. Not many other project details are known for Huron's location, such as a timeline for opening and/or why project partners chose this site for a new restaurant. Through Huron's government, here is what's known about this latest investment: • Construction plans involve demolishing and rebuilding the existing structure. Crews also plan on resurfacing the parking lot. • The total investment equates to about $1.2 million, a private amount. At this time, the government isn't providing any money or financial incentives. • Various city boards intend on reviewing documentation at a scheduled meeting on June 28. • A company known as Arnold Consulting Engineering Services, from Kentucky, under owner Trinity Holdings, from Tennessee, is overseeing this effort. Matt Lasko, Huron's city manager, eagerly awaits its arrival. "Although not formally approved yet, the city is in receipt of plans to demolish the former Burger King building and construct a new Long John Silver's restaurant," he said. "This plan will eliminate a long-sitting vacant building and bring a great new amenity and dining option to our visitors and residents," he said. "The west end of Huron is destined for significant public and private investment over the next five years, and this project provides early evidence of the ongoing transformation."
