District mourns student

PERKINS TWP. — A recent Perkins High School graduate passed away this week. Alyjah "AJ" Bores unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, according to a Perkins Schools Facebook post. The district said grief counselors and therapy dogs will be available to all Perkins Schools students from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm. on Monday inside the Perkins High School Learning Center. The district posted this statement online: It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we inform you of the recent and unexpected passing of one of our beloved students and a recent Perkins graduate, Alyjah "AJ" Bores. AJ passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 6, 2024. As a recent graduate of Perkins High, AJ was an exceptional individual who touched the lives of many with his kindness and enthusiasm. His memory will continue to inspire us all. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with AJ's family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic loss. In response to this heartbreaking event, we are taking several steps to support our students, staff, and families—Grief Counseling and Support Services: Grief counselors and therapy dogs will be available for all district students Monday, June 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. inside the Perkins High School Learning Center. We encourage any student or staff member who may need emotional support to take advantage of these services. We recognize that this news may be very difficult for many members of our community.
