Huron standoff ends with arrest

HURON — A man landed in jail after an early morning standoff with police on Saturday in Huron. Dustin L. Keller, 26, of Chillicothe, is charged with aggravated menacing and discharging a firearm into a habitation. At approximately 3:45 a.m., police received a call of a man with a gun trying to attack the caller, according to a Huron police report. When officers arrived at the home, in the 800 block of Crescent Drive, they set up a perimeter. They then saw a man inside looking out. Police ordered the man out and he complied. He told officers he observed Keller and another man struggling over a handgun so he assisted the other man. That is when the gun discharged, according to the report. The man said he was certain Keller no longer had the firearm and he then retreated to the garage which is when officers spotted him. The homeowner's son then exited and eventually assisted police in calling everyone in the home to come out with their hands raised. This resulted in everyone except Keller leaving the home. Due to Keller remaining in the home and possibly in possession of a firearm, the special response team was activated. Officers obtained a search warrant and then entered the home, the report states. Police found Keller in an upstairs bedroom and arrested him. Officers located a floorboard with a bullet hole and a 9 mm handgun. The gun had 7 rounds in the magazine and a bullet casing was located nearby. What happened? The victim had a group of people over for the weekend for Ohio Bike Week. "After returning home, altercations and reckless behavior ensued," the report states. One person tried to calm the situation. When they told Keller to calm down, he reportedly replied, "What is your fat (expletive) going to do about it?" He then allegedly pushed the victim. Another person in the home then grabbed Keller by the shirt and pinned him against kitchen cabinets, according to the report. At that point, Keller reportedly said, "Ok, I'm done." so the person let Keller go. Keller reportedly went upstairs then came back downstairs. He then turned toward a person and racked the slide of a handgun while stating, "I've got something for you," the report states. The person yelled to everyone to run and fled themselves.
