Top Thrill resumes testing

SANDUSKY — The new Top Thrill 2 roller coaster opened to much fanfare when the park opened for the 2024 season at the beginning of May. But, shortly thereafter, the roller coaster was placed on extended closure on May 12 when Zamperla, the ride's manufacturer, determined there were some mechanical modifications that needed to be made. Cedar Point has not made any updates regarding the issue other than to say they anticipated making an announcement soon, and that the ride would not be closed all summer. This week, some keen-eyed guests noticed that the Top Thrill trains had new wheels on them. Then after the park closed this week, several guests staying at the marina and Hotel Breakers have shared photos and video of the trains being tested until late in the night. This is great news, as the ride vehicles undergo testing and state certifications to open again in the future. While the park has yet to make an announcement, it would be our guess that if everything goes as planned, guests might see Top Thrill 2 reopen sometime in early June. Once Top Thrill reopens, we will see if Cedar Point resumes the Ultimate Appetite Circuit —weekly food specials themed to the ride — it started and then quieting discontinued.
