Movie forcing major road closure

SANDUSKY — Production of a feature film in Sandusky and Perkins Township will prompt local officials to close a section of road along one of the busiest streets in Erie County. On four upcoming days, the closure will occur along West Perkins Avenue between Camp Street and Old Railroad Road between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on these scheduled days: • Tuesday • Wednesday • Monday, June 10 • Tuesday, June 11 "The road closures will be in effect to ensure the safety of both the film crew and the public," according to a statement from city officials. "Detour signs will be posted to guide drivers to alternate routes." For westbound traffic, the official detour will be Perkins Avenue to Hayes Avenue (Ohio 4) to Strub Road to Old Railroad Road back onto Perkins Avenue and vice versa for eastbound traffic. Local traffic, however, can use local streets to bypass the closure. "Barricades will be placed at access points to West Perkins Avenue and staffed by police officers and other security personnel," the statement read. "Local traffic to/from residential streets and businesses in the closure area will be able to request access at the security checkpoints. This may involve waiting for a few minutes until it is safe to proceed." In addition to the road closures, officials ask pedestrians to steer clear of Perkins Avenue during these times for everyone's safety. What's the movie? TCS US Productions 29 gave some insight into the movie, "Stickshift," being filmed in this area through a letter mailed out to area residents who could be affected by this road closure. "The scene will involve cars traveling at high speeds and stunts in which the vehicles will spin out into an adjacent property," according to the letter, which didn't identify any more details about this movie. "We will be using squibs — small controlled special effects sounds, the equivalent to about a quarter of a firecracker — and airsoft, not actual functional, prop guns," the letter read. "Our production understands we are guests in your neighborhood and will conduct ourselves accordingly." A casting call put out by the Greater Cleveland Film Commission, however, provided some additional details about "Stickshift." "A reformed getaway driver gets pulled back in for one last job in order to save the life of her always-in-trouble ex who is indebted to their former boss," the script read.
