School notes: Huron, Clyde-Green Springs, Sandusky Orioles Club and Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge

HURON Two first-grade classes at Woodlands Elementary School wrote and illustrated their very own books: — Debbie Phinney's class named their book "Woodlands Superheroes Rock!" Each student created their very own superhero. They wrote a story about it and drew an illustration. — Jess Gimperling's class named their book "When I Grow Up." Each student talked about their future aspirations through their own drawings. CLYDE-GREEN SPRINGS • McPherson Middle School announced its April Students of the Month. — Olivia Mosier and Jaxon Nord were awarded as the sixth-grade Students of the Month. — Aizley Anstead and Nathan Scruggs were named March's seventh-grade Students of the Month. — Eight-grade Students of the Month were Allyssa Metz and Dane Aldrich. The middle school also recognized two exploratory students and two club members for March. — Eden Miller and Bennett Stiltner were honored as Exploratory Students of the Month. Chloey Wallace from FFA and Drey Willis from the Gaming Club were named Club Members of the Month. The middle school honors athletes each week. All athletes recognized were track athletes. Lillian Greenslade, Justin Kofron, Ariah Farrar, Zach Clapp and Ethan Skeels. SANDUSKY ORIOLES CLUB • The Sandusky Orioles Nest 279 awarded scholarships to five seniors. Braden Sartor from Sandusky High School; Avery Hoffman from Sandusky High School; Kaylee Parker from Huron High School; Erika Ernsberger from Perkins High School; and Maggie McVeigh from Perkins High School. This year's recipients received $1,000. FRIENDS OF OTTAWA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE • Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge announced the winners of its newly established Blue Goose Scholarship. This year's winners were Megan Walters-Aughney from St. Ursula Academy and Kaylie Simpson from Port Clinton High School. The students were awarded $2,500 for their academics and commitment to the environment. The funding will go toward the students' pursuit of environment science degrees and conservation careers.
