Sample Cedar Point's new dining experience

Guests who visit Cedar Point a lot looking for something different to eat may be interested in a new limited-time dining experience. But, to do it, guests will need to act fast. In celebration of the new Top Thrill 2 roller coaster debut, which is currently down for extended maintenance, the food and beverage team at Cedar Point has crafted a list of menu items to sample over the next eight weeks. The first menu items are available now through Thursday. Last week, we were the first to purchase the first menu item: the Pulled Pork Donut Sandwich. Between two glazed doughnuts, the park takes its fantastic smoked pulled pork, coats it with cheese and barbecue sauce and then fries up some of their bread and butter pickles as a topping. The massive sandwich spans more than 6 inches tall and is easily sharable among family or friends. The sandwich captures everything fun that is supposed to happen at an amusement park. Sure it is loaded with calories, but how often do you get to try something like this? It could be your one opportunity to tap into the mixture of sweet and salty, as the various textures of the ingredients roll off your tongue. It was certainly fun to eat. We thought it played a little too heavily on the sweet side and needed more balance — this coming from someone who has a large sweet tooth. While some may balk at the $22.95 price point, a normal meal at BackBeatQue is $22 and includes a small portion of meat and a side. So considering this sandwich is more food than a normal platter, the price point actually was not too bad, especially considering it is easily shareable. Cedar Point promises that, for guests who try each of the eight menu items and gets their card stamped, they can turn it in for a specialty button in July. While it is a potentially large investment for a 10 cent button, it gives regulars a chance to try new menu items. Note: It is not anticipated that any of the Ultimate Appetite Circuit menu items are available on the dining plan. What's on the menu? The following is the schedule to obtain each menu item. • May 10-16 at BackBeatQue — Pulled Pork Donut Sandwich; pulled pork inside glazed doughnuts, topped with cheese, barbecue sauce and fried pickles coming in at $22.95 • May 17-23 at Farmhouse Kitchen — Accelerate Your Adrenaline Cheesecake • May 24-30 at Coasters Diner — Triple Launch Burger • May 31-June 6 at Stockade Sweets — Waffle Cone Nachos • June 7-13 at Frontier Inn — Coming in Hot Burger • June 14-20 at French Quarter Confections — 270-Degree Twist • June 21-27 at Derby Dogs — Fully Loaded Footlong Hot Dog • June 28 to July 4 at Ice Cream Parlor — Pit Stop Shake For guests serious about participating in the Ultimate Appetite Circuit, be sure to get your punch card before the end of the day on Thursdays. On Fridays, the new menu option will hit the road.
