Fremont receives $265K federal grant

FREMONT — The city of Fremont recently secured a $265,000 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez said the city plans to use the grant to fund improvements and renovations at the Fremont Community Recreation Center, 600 St. Joseph St. Kaptur The city is funding about $151,000 toward the project, which will cost about $416,000 overall. U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, said that she is "glad to help return $265,000 in taxpayer dollars to the people of Fremont and Sandusky County" through this award. External improvements to the facility include: • Resurfacing the entrance and parking lot • Installing LED lights in the parking lot • Improving accessibility to the parking lot Sanchez • Upgrading stormwater drainage and water quality Internally, funding will help improve the indoor walking track, weight room and full-sized ice rink. "The city of Fremont strategically plans out projects to be prepared for matching grants that can be utilized for specific projects," Sanchez said. "The Fremont Recreation parking lot is in dire need of repair, and we are thankful (that) our team's hard work continues to pay off with proper planning. We are also thankful for the other federal elected officials who helped make this possible."
