Event honors beloved mother

MONROEVILLE — The Huron River Joint Fire District, which provides fire-related services across Huron County, invites people out to a pancake breakfast in support of the Julie Roth Memorial Foundation. The event takes place from 8-11 a.m. May 19 at the district's station in Monroeville, 155 Monroe St. People can reach out to the district, facebook.com/hrjfd, for more information. "Due to the support of our amazing community and donations in support of Roth ID tags, tags will now be available free of charge and installed on the spot," according to a district statement. In memory The Julie Roth Memorial Foundation pays tribute to Julie Roth, who passed away in a nearly 50-car pileup on the Ohio Turnpike in December 2022. Roth was pregnant at the time. Family members described Roth, 37, as a devoted mother, a beloved wife, a dedicated nurse, an amazing sister and so much more. She is survived by her husband, Tony, and their two young children, Rory and Ayla. Her children, who were with her when the crash occurred, lived. "Injured and afraid, the two toddlers waited hours to see a familiar face while emergency responders worked to identify them and contact their father, who was at work," the foundation wrote. "Ayla and Rory Roth are alive and well today. They are the reason for the Roth ID tag creation." The foundation gave some insight into these tags, which can provide necessary information, such as point of contact, for first responders when they encounter children during emergency situations. It also alerts them to a child's allergies and other medical conditions. Basically, it's an "information tag that can be affixed to any car seat or product used by an infant, young child or person under the care of a parent or guardian," according to a statement. The foundation aims to keep Roth's legacy alive "through the widespread use of emergency contact resources, including identification for children on child safety equipment, dependents on mobility equipment and everyone else through education of the importance of making emergency contact information available to first responders."
