Police: Woman broke into home

SANDUSKY — A Sandusky woman is facing charges after allegedly breaking into a home early Monday morning. Jonishia A.L. Dotson, 26, of the 2600 block of Pioneer Trail, is charged with burglary and assault on a peace officer, both of which are fourth-degree felonies. She is additionally charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Just before 2 a.m. on Monday, officers were called to a home in the 900 block of Fourth St. for the report of a woman who broke out a window then entered the house. When officers arrived, they found the broken window and saw blood drops on the porch, according to a Sandusky police report. The resident told officers that Dotson broke the window then crawled through it, cutting her hand in the process. They told the officers that Dotson was not permitted at the property and had been trespassed. Officers later learned she has been trespassed from the property twice in 2024. Officers encountered Dotson as she was descending the home's stairwell. They saw her hands were covered in blood and dripping, the report states. They also noted that she was "very unsteady on her feet and she was slurring her words." Due to her injuries, Dotson was transported to Firelands by Sandusky EMTs. She allegedly attempted to get off of the gurney and exit the ambulance as it was moving. When officers arrived at the ER, they informed Dotson she was under arrest for burglary, the report states. After officers read her of her rights, she purportedly told them that she's been to that home "a million times" and she did not know how the window was broken. While medical staff attempted to treat her wounds, she was allegedly disruptive, screaming and cursing. After she was discharged and officers were walking her to a cruiser, she reportedly purposely scratched one of the officers on the forearm with her nails. Dotson has an arraignment scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday in Sandusky Municipal Court. As of late Tuesday, she is being held in Erie County Jail under a no-bond order.
