School notes: Sandusky Central Catholic, Port Clinton, VFW, Bellevue, Clyde-Green Springs

SANDUSKY CENTRAL CATHOLIC SCHOOL • Steve Kohler, a St. Mary Central Catholic School teacher, invited Diana Smith to speak to his students for his lesson in 70s feminism. Smith is 80 years old and has lived in multiple areas of the country, including Washington, D.C., and worked in the FBI building. She shared stories about "hiding her pregnancy" as a way to keep her job and other experiences women have gone through. Smith also shared her faith in God and how prayer shaped her life. • Students from Sandusky Central Catholic School were on the big screen at Citi Field. Seniors at the school went to a New York Mets game as part of their senior trip. • Students from Sandusky Central Catholic School took a trip to Old Women's Creek. The fourth-grade students explored the area with their classmates. PORT CLINTON • The Port Clinton High School Envirothon Team qualified for state. The Port Clinton team finished fourth at the Area 1 Envirothon at Ohio State University's Lima Campus. The team competed in four areas: soils, wildlife, aquatics and forestry. Morgan Wiechman, Arleigh Dackermann, Kaylie Simpson, Mason Short and Madison Wiechman make up the fourth-place team. These students will compete at the state competition in June at Hocking College. Joseph Apple, Nora Bodie, Gabbie Heilmann, Charley Simpson and Brooklynn Starkey also competed at the Area 1 Envirothon. The high school's science teachers, Nichole and Ryan Wiechman, are the team's advisers. VFW 2529 AUXILIARY • The auxiliary of the VFW Post 2529 Sandusky hosted an art contest for local students. Submissions were judged by local judges and monetary awards were given by Auxiliary post 2529 & Dad's of the Post. Of the 80 guests, they included students, parents and teachers. They were served a spaghetti dinner provided by the post. Savanna Shaffer from Margaretta went to state and won first place in the 9-12 grade Young American 3-D Patriotic Art competition. Aubrey Yost for Perkins and Avviana Pickle from Margaretta won second and third place. Tara Myers from Perkins went to state and won first place in the 9-12 grade 3-D Patriotic Art competition. Logan Steele and Ellie Bodle from Perkins won second and third place. The auxiliary also hosted contests for grades K-2 and 3-5. Evelyn Kromer from Sandusky Central Catholic School won first place in the K-2 contest and Piper Moore from Perkins won second place. Ariana Reinholt from Margaretta won first place in the 3-5 contest. Allie Troike from Margaretta and Cowin Seamon from Perkins won second and third. BELLEVUE • Bellevue students sang at a baseball game. Bellevue's choir sang the National Anthem at the Mud Hens game. CLYDE-GREEN SPRINGS • Clyde-Green Springs celebrates School Lunch Hero Day.
