PREP ROUNDUP: Clyde clinches SBC boys tennis titles

PERKINS TWP. — Clyde defeated Perkins 4-1 on Thursday to clinch the fourth Sandusky Bay Conference boys tennis championship in school history. The Fliers improved to 11-4 overall and 9-1 in the SBC Lake Division. Aric Kauble and Justin Clark won singles matches for Clyde. Alex Krintzline and Chase Castle and Bodhi and Oscar Webb won at doubles. "I was very happy with the way the boys went out and played both tonight, to clinch, as well as all season," Clyde coach Jeff MacFarland wrote in an email. "We had some adversity throughout the season, especially with Aidan (Krintzline) missing the first 6 1/2 weeks of the preseason and early-season matches. "The team stepped up and played out of position, but still adjusted to get key early-season wins. Once the team was back to full strength, the boys continued to develop and have been improving through the last two weeks." Aidan Kritzline broke an arm during a snowboarding accident in late January. "Fortunately it was his left hand," MacFarland said. "Once he got back into playing it didn't affect his game." Perkins' Chase Young won in straight sets on No. 1 singles. Clyde's next match is Friday at the Port Clinton Doubles Tournament. The first three SBC titles for Clyde came in 1996, 2017 and 2018. "We were very happy to have three champion positions last weekend at the SBC Lake tournament (2nd singles, 1st and 2nd doubles), and to finish out the league schedule with three big wins this week," MacFarland said. "It has been a great accomplishment." Clyde is assured of no worse than a co-championship in the Lake. Columbian is 8-1 with one match to play. Clyde and Columbian each won on each other's home courts this season. The Tornadoes edged Norwalk 3-2 on Thursday and finish Lake play next week against Bellevue. Singles: Chase Young (P) def.
