Euchre tournament raising money for scholarships

SANDUSKY — Leadership Erie County is hosting a euchre tournament taking place from 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday at Clubhouse No.3 SportSocial, 220 E. Water St., Sandusky. There is a $35 entry fee to play. All proceeds benefit Leadership Erie County's scholarship program. There will be prizes for the first-, second- and third-place teams. Additionally, there will be raffles, food and games. Mary Giles, a realtor with Sandusky-based North Bay Realty, is affiliated with Leadership Erie County, "a nonprofit, service-oriented organization that prepares civic-minded individuals through training to serve their communities," she said. Giles answered some additional questions about the event: • Who can attend: "Anyone who lives or works in Erie County who demonstrates a desire to participate in the Leadership Erie County program but may need financial assistance to do so. Scholarships are awarded based upon community service and involvement as well as personal achievements of scholarship applicants." • Why should people attend: "The Leadership Erie County program is invaluable to anyone in local leadership positions. The benefits received and lessons learned can be directly applied to both the workplace and interpersonal interactions. The program allows participants to see a wide variety of leadership styles in actual use locally across Erie County as well as tour and experience many different small businesses, service organizations, charitable foundations, governmental entities and other local-flavor Erie County workplaces for a well-rounded exposure to al that the local community has to offer, building strong networking contacts in the process. This fundraising event will financially support that effort while, at the same time, providing a fun social night out to all of those supporters." • What else should people know: "We are just one small group of the 2024 Leadership Erie County class looking to pay it forward by organizing this event.
