Report: Man fired gun on highway

MARGARETTA TWP. — A Sandusky man is facing charges after an alleged road rage shooting on Monday. Caleb A. Hull, 27, of 4700 block of Mason Road, is charged with a single count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony. He is additionally facing a misdemeanor count of discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises. On Tuesday afternoon, sheriff's deputies were called to a possible shooting that occurred on Ohio 2 near Ohio 101. The alleged victim told deputies he accidentally cut off Hull while they were both eastbound on Ohio 2 and that Hull proceeded to tailgate the victim and brandished a black, semi-automatic handgun. Hull then allegedly fired one round in the direction of the victim's vehicle, according to an Erie County Sheriff's Office report. Deputies found Hull at an acquaintance's residence near Bogart Road, according to Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth. The car Hull had been driving on Ohio 2 was located at a Milan Road dealership, where he had dropped it off for service. The acquaintance picked Hull up from the dealership, Sigsworth said. Deputies located a firearm allegedly used in the alleged attack in the acquaintance's car and Hull was arrested. The gun's magazine holds 15 rounds of ammunition but only 14 rounds were in it, Sigsworth said. Hull allegedly told deputies he routinely only loads 14 rounds into the magazine. Deputies seized the car that was left at the dealership and had it towed to the sheriff's office. They then obtained a search warrant and conducted a search of the car. Hull was arraigned on Wednesday in Erie County Municipal Court. He posted a $50,000 bond and was released from Erie County Jail. "We were able to effect a quick arrest in this case due to a collaborative effort with Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers," Sigsworth said.
