PREP ROUNDUP: Wikel's gem pilots SMCC to 2-0 win

SANDUSKY — St. Mary Central Catholic's Reid Wikel had his good stuff working Wednesday night at Dorn Park. The right-hander threw a two-hit shutout to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 win over visiting Western Reserve. Wikel struck out eight batters and needed 97 pitches to complete his seven-inning gem. SMCC went ahead in the bottom of the fourth when Brayden Gill singled home Garrett Jackson. The Panthers added an insurance run in the fifth on a run-scoring groundout by Blake Finneran. Gill had both hits for SMCC (2-1). Tyler Wood operated on the other side of the pitching dual, allowing the two hits and walking one for Western in six innings. Ariyah Warner picked up two hits out of the 8-spot in the lineup, drove in three runs and scored twice while catching the entire game. The Fliers won the boys competition handily, 83-54, but the Tornadoes narrowly won the girls events, 69-68. Zander Burroughs led the Clyde boys team with wins in the high jump (5-6) and 110 hurdles (15.96). Clyde had two girls win two individual events apiece: Bree Caudill (100, 200) and Curstin Hackenburg (shot, disc). TC's girls won the 4x400 to take the dual win on the final event of the girls lineup, with Erica Raubenolt, Makiah Gurney, Alexandria Henning and Mia Zeis winning by 13 seconds in the combined mile.
