District seeks community input

During the March regular board meeting, high school teacher Mr. James and students from his junior/senior seminar class presented. Seniors Lucy Watson, Tess Humphrey, and Cody Scroggins shared their participation in the course. The students participate in job shadows, internships, and field experience with local businesses. The career fields align with the student's interests and aptitudes, identified by completing the YouScience career assessment. Host businesses included Firelands Health, Humanetics, Greater Sandusky Partnership, NOMS, Sandusky Register, University Hospitals and Buckeye Sports Center. The junior/senior seminar class is a wonderful example of experiential learning that prepares Huron students for success beyond graduation. Also, at the board meeting, discussions continued about district facility needs. The board debriefed on the community engagement events held earlier in March. In an effort to seek additional community input, a community facility survey is now open through the end of spring break, April 8, 2024. Please complete the brief survey and share it with others in the community to do the same. Survey input will help the Board make informed decisions regarding moving forward. Community Facility Survey: https://bit.ly/HCSFacilitySurvey After 12 years of service as Huron's Athletic Director, Mr. Camella will retire at the conclusion of his contract on July 31, 2024. I thank him for his service and dedication to our student-athletes and the district. He exemplified Huron Pride in his work. For his replacement, the board is seeking to expand the leadership responsibilities of the position. The new title is Director of Activities and Athletics. This position will support student-experience programming, which includes performing arts and athletics. The goal is to enrich the extra-curricular experience for students district-wide. The posting is open now and accepting applications. Spring sports are underway this week. Be sure to catch the spring athletes as they compete for conference titles and beyond. Spring break begins March 29 and extends through April 8, Ohio's solar eclipse date. Enjoy the experience with friends and family as a final event of spring break. Upon return, students will participate in state-mandated accountability assessments. Continue to support your children as they learn, explore and grow.
