Sandusky eatery expanding in Vermilion

SANDUSKY — This past week, Wake Up and Waffle — a brunch-based eatery operating within the Marketplace Downtown in Sandusky since 2020 — revealed plans to expand and open a second spot elsewhere in Erie County. "We are excited to announce our new location in Vermilion," according to a company statement, noting it should debut in May. The new area, 5693 Liberty Ave. (U.S. 6), is formerly home to Your Last Chance BBQ & More, which closed in 2023. It's located across from Ritter Public Library. There's no indoor seating presently, but plenty of outdoor dining spots exist. Many people took to social media, expressing their delight in this latest development. "This is great," Mark Kempton wrote. "Sandusky is generally too far to get for breakfast, but I've been wanting to try your food. Can't wait to see you open." It's not known what the menu offerings could be at the Vermilion location. In Sandusky, Wake Up serves, among other items, sandwiches, egg dishes, brunch meals and, of course, waffles as its name implies. Wake Up and Waffle is owned by sisters Lauren Krueger and Kristie Ward.
