End gerrymandering; sign petition

Many of us felt that the new law laying out fair and equitable rules for drawing our district maps approved with overwhelming support in 2018 would prevent gerrymandering (drawing district maps in order to benefit one party over the other) from Ohio's future. We were wrong. Our politicians are still able (and willing!) to subvert the democratic process despite so many Ohioans demanding that our maps are drawn to fairly represent the voters. So it's time to take the politicians out of the process all together. Citizens Not Politicians is a new campaign to put a citizen led initiative on the November ballot. What would this new amendment do to stop gerrymandering? It would take politicians completely out of the process by creating a 15-member commission of citizens (five Independents, five Republicans and five Democrats) who broadly represent the geographic areas and demographics of the state. It would ban current or former politicians, political party officials and lobbyists from the commission. It would make it unconstitutional to draw voting districts that discriminate against or favor any political party or individual politician. And it would require thecommission to operate under an open and independent process. We are currently in the signature collection phase of getting this amendment on the November ballot.
