School notes: Benton-Carroll-Salem, Port Clinton, Vermilion and Perkins

PERKINS • Briar Middle School celebrated a leap year birthday. Abigail Donoho, a sixth-grade student at Briar Middle School, celebrates her birthday every four years. This year, she turned 3. BENTON-CARROLL-SALEM • Oak Harbor High, eighth and seventh-grade art clubs hosted a fundraiser for the Ottawa County Humane Society. Oak Harbor High School Music Performance group performed during dinner which was followed by an art auction presented by Overmyer Auction LLC. The art club members visited the Humane Society and learned how the organization is run and stamped the animal's paw prints with paint and glaze. The prints were actioned off to community members. There was also an earring sale, a "grab and go" table and a dessert sale. A little over $2,000 was raised for the Humane Society. PORT CLINTON • Port Clinton Middle School's Builder's Club visited Bataan Memorial Primary School to read to its students. The club members read books about notable Americans to celebrate Black History Month. • At Port Clinton Middle School's Young Entrepreneur Fair, 28 students participated in a competition similar to the show "Shark Tank." Micaela Wiechman won third place with her Gardens of Hope project, Shantha Weit's Curious Cat Cafe placed second and the Grant Champion was Ari Dunson, with Spirit Shack. The students are members of Port Clinton Middle School's Entrepreneur Club under the direction of Kerry Fial. VERMILION • Vermilion High School's Educators Rising group donated books to a local library. The group collected and donated over 1,800 to the Ritter Public Library book sale.
