BOYS: Henlon, Washington named players of year in District 6

A pair of local boys basketball players picked up player of the year honors before the regular season even ended. Sandusky junior Jason Henlon and Margaretta sophomore Julian Washington were named players of the year in their respective divisions as part of the All-District 6 honors, which are chosen by coaches within this district. In Division I, all five of Sandusky's starters snagged All-District 6 selections. Henlon, who has averaged 18.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game, was joined on the first team by Amir Aaron and Kobe Brown. Aaron's first full season as a varsity starter has him at 13.2 points and 3.2 steals per game. Brown averages 13.1 points with 31 made 3s on the season. Aa'Zoriyon Bonner and Azarieon Arrington made second team. They, like the first-team trio, are juniors. The Blue Streaks are 19-1 entering Tuesday's home game against Ashland. Washington's player of the year selection came in Division III. He's averaging 20 points per game for the Polar Bears, who are 17.3 entering Tuesday night's game against Genoa. Joining Washington locally on the D-III first-team is Huron junior Jackson McNulty, who is at 15.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game for the Tigers. The Division I first team also included a pair of Norwalk Truckers: Mason Gamble and Dalton Chapin. The D-II All-District 6 first team included three of the top four scorers in the SBC. Max Dawson from Willard, at 25.4 points per game, highlighted the list behind player of the year Alex Bruskotter of Shelby. Clyde's Brayden Olson (23.8 ppg) and Port Clinton's Jackson Beasley (19.1 ppg) also made first team. So did Willard forward Cam Robinson, who puts up 16.6 points a night. The lone Register-area representative on the D-IV All-District 6 First Team was St. Paul's 6-foot-6 junior Nolan McCall. SMCC's Braylon Harris and Danbury's Tyler Harris were among the second team choices. The D-I coach of the year is DeMar Moore from Sandusky. Willard's Joe Bedingfield got D-II honors, followed by Crestview's John Kurtz in D-III and Roger Jury (Hopewell-Loudon) in D-IV.
