Get personal with new exhibit

SANDUSKY — With their artwork for a new show, creators took an inside look at themselves. They then placed those pieces on display for the outside world to see. "Self Image II" represents the newest Sandusky Cultural Center show. It's also the fourth of the 2023-24 season. The exhibit debuts Sunday with a public reception set for 1-4 p.m. During the reception, some show participants will be in attendance for a book signing in the gallery's lobby. This show "is a nod to the first 'Self Image' Sandusky Cultural Center exhibit, which was forced by a COVID-19 mandate to close early several years ago," center board member Marsha Carrington said. "Invited artists were asked to visually express an aspect of their essence," Carrington said. "Works in the show range from the realistic to conceptual in style and drawing; printmaking; painting in oil acrylic and watercolor; ceramic sculpture; vitreous enamel; and polymer clay in media. Selected works loaned from the original 'Self Image' round out the exhibit." Carrington went into more detail for each artist, which includes herself: • "Paula Blackman, a ceramic sculptor in her first appearance at Sandusky Cultural Center, presents realistic portraits as gestures." • "Justin Brennan paints in a wide variety of expressionist manners while still retaining a strong personal likeness." • "Marsha Gray Carrington shows a group of small mixed media paintings representing moods as well as more literal portrait images." • "Dan Corrigan returns to the gallery after a long absence with a trio of small figural acrylics in his personal expressionistic style." • "Jacob Dawkins, in his first appearance at the cultural center, exhibits a complex drawing in ink and colored pencil realistically illustrating a plethora of expressions." • "Joshua Eiskamp continues his ongoing series of minimal works on raw canvas with gesso and mixed media." • "Danny Frank shows an increasingly complex work combining screen printing with hand-cut paper embellishment." • "Elizabeth Gierosky continues to confound expectations with two imagined figural paintings and a wire sculpture." • "Michael High presents four ceramic sculptures in his highly complex recognizable figural style." • "Eric Jaworosky shares highly personal details of his emotional struggles in two narrative acrylic paintings." • "Todd Leech has made a monumental ceramic and mixed media wall sculpture honoring his interest in a contemporary British music movement." • "Randy Maxin has collaborated with Ed Raffel on a large geometric wall sculpture combing antique papers with mirrored recesses." • "Raffel also contributes two large wall sculptures featuring myriad small mirrors precisely cut and angled into fanciful geometric surrounds." • "Joel Rudinger shows self-portraits in both vitreous enamel and linocut media." The show runs through March 24. Admission is free, and people can purchase most of the artwork. People can find the center within Sandusky High School, 2130 Hayes Ave. (Ohio 4).
