Pavilion prices going up

SANDUSKY — Officials needed to raise the rates on a prime public waterfront space used for all sorts of gatherings. During a recent public meeting, city commissioners approved a rental price hike for the Mylander Pavilion on Jackson Street Pier in downtown Sandusky. Linda Carroll, an administrative assistant with the city's recreation department, outlined the major reasons why a price hike occurred, effective for the 2024 season. "We have had a large increase in (the) volume of rentals, and our parks and recreation staff is spending a large amount of their time cleaning and setting up the pavilion for rentals," Carroll said. "We have also seen an increase in our insurance rates for the pavilion as well." The Mylander Pavilion — named after the late philanthropist George Mylander, whose namesake foundation contributed funds in helping transform Jackson Street Pier, an $8.1 million initiative, back in 2020 — houses a kitchenette, refrigerator, ice maker and multiple bathrooms. It debuted shortly after the pier's transformation. People rent out the pavilion for wedding ceremonies and receptions; birthday parties; graduation celebrations, family reunions; baby and bridal showers; and more. "The space has become a premier location," Carroll said. "Our goal is to continue to have the price be affordable to the public."
