Danbury to induct 5 into athletic hall of fame

Danbury has announced five alumni who will be inducted into the school's athletic hall of fame. Tom Lane (1949), Charles Myers (1961), Andy Parker (1961), Fred Soski (1964) and Kain Lucas (2017) will be recognized at halftime of the boys basketball game on Jan. 19. Lane was a multi-sport star for the Lakers in the late 1940s. He twice placed at the state meet in the pole vault — third as a junior and fifth as a senior. Lane also scored the most points at the Ottawa County Track Meet during his senior season. Lane also captained Ottawa County champions in both basketball and football. Parker played quarterback and racked up honors after his 1960 senior fall. He was named honorable mention All-Ohio and first-team All-Seaway Conference. Myers blocked for Parker and was honorable mention All-Ohio as an offensive lineman in 1960. He also made first team in the Seaway Conference and was named to the Toledo Blade's all-star team as a senior. Soski inherited the line leadership role as Danbury's center through his 1963 senior fall. That season, he was named honorable mention All-Ohio. He also placed first team all-district and was on the first team in the Lakeshore Conference. Danbury won the Lakeshore Conference with Soski at center as a senior in 1963. Lucas, the most-recent of the inductees, was a star thrower for Danbury's track team. As a senior in 2017, Lucas placed second at the state meet in the shot put. He was fourth at the state indoor meet that winter. Lucas won the Toledo Area Athletic Conference championship in the shot put as a sophomore, junior and senior. He also took first in the discus at the TAAC meet in his junior and senior seasons. These five inductees will be honored at halftime of Danbury's boys basketball game against New Riegel on Friday, Jan. 19. JV tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. with a varsity start around 7.
