What's up with Monroeville's gas station?

MONROEVILLE — Two months ago, the only gas station in Monroeville closed and has remained locked up with no reopening date in sight. "Our understanding is that the 7-Eleven corporate management took steps to close the Monroeville store and station on Oct. 20 and take over the store management from the franchise operator," village mayor-elect Joe Galea said. "We believe this was due to operational issues." Galea referenced the BP gas station/7-Eleven convenience store location on Sandusky Street (U.S. 20). It's the only place where people can get gasoline within the village's political subdivision boundaries. More recently, however, village officials learned some positive developments. "We have been informed that the store will be reopened under corporate management and that they are taking steps to clean and refurbish the store, install management and hire new employees," Galea said. "We are not aware of any building or operating permits having yet been obtained." Galea noted the village "looks forward to supporting 7-Eleven and new store management in any way we can, and we look forward to restoration of fuel and convenience service to the village and its residents. "We are eager to provide any updates to our residents as we learn more about 7-Eleven's re-opening plans," he said.
