Man celebrates 50 years with 1 company

PORT CLINTON — On Dec. 9, Port Clinton Manufacturing celebrated Dennis "Woody" Wood, who reached his 50th work anniversary with the company earlier this year. An open house occurred to mark the occasion. "Port Clinton Manufacturing is proud to celebrate a tremendous employee milestone," according to a company statement, noting Wood began his tenure with the company on Oct. 18, 1973. "Almost directly after graduation from Port Clinton High School, Woody applied and was hired by the company as a machine operator," it read. "Over the years, Woody worked up through the ranks and worked in many departments. His adaptability made him a valuable asset to the company." For the past several years, Wood — married to his late wife, Luann he resides in Port Clinton — has transitioned into a leadership role, where he can share his knowledge with the next generation of machinists. "Wood worked through a challenging time in our country where manufacturing became less desirable of a career choice," the statement read. "As the pendulum swings the other way, and more companies are reshoring (returning to) production work, he is able to pass on his expertise to the next generation of skilled tradesmen." Among the many career accolades he's earned: the perfect attendance award. Colleagues said he always shows up for work with a good attitude. During the open house and celebration, Port Clinton Mayor Mike Snider came to read a proclamation in honor of Wood. "Woody has shown unwavering dedication to his chosen profession with 50 years of service through positive actions and unselfish deeds in the pursuit of a fun and inviting workplace," Snider said. In honor of Wood reaching the 50-year milestone of service with one employer, Snider declared his work anniversary, Oct. 18, "shall heretofore be known, in all corners of the city of Port Clinton, as Dennis 'Woody' Wood Day for his recognition and accomplishments." Bio blast Here's some insight about Port Clinton Manufacturing, on West Perry Street in Port Clinton, provided by the company: Port Clinton Manufacturing began as a marine fabrication and repair shop in 1929 and was owned by the Zetzer Brothers of Port Clinton. During World War II, the company subcontracted work for a company in Detroit, managed by Clarence Dracka. After the war, Dracka partnered with the Zetzers and transformed the business into a contract manufacturer. In 1964, Dracka became the sole owner and continued to grow the company. In 1988, Dracka transitioned ownership of the company to his sons, Chuck and Rudy, who continued the company as a contract manufacturer, focusing on precision hardened and ground internal engine components. On Feb. 17, 2015, the sale of the company to Daniel Stott was completed. Today the company is a tier I original equipment manufacturer parts supplier for engine builders engaged in rail transportation and gas and oil mining businesses. The company is known for excellent quality and manufacturing processes and strives to deliver the highest quality parts on time and at a competitive price. The company employs 25 full-time tradesmen, operators and staff.
