Boutique sets up shop in Huron

HURON — Two years ago, Meredith Klun opened her first Lake Effects Boutique store on Put-in-Bay, selling summertime apparel. Due to its success, and more recently, she expanded by debuting her second store — but this time on the mainland in the offseason, offering winter wear. "Why not take the opportunity, to move into this space, and see how it goes?" said Klun, referencing her new shop at 519 Main St. in Huron. It's located across from Main Street Tavern near the railroad tracks. Klun, a Catawba Island resident, collaborated with the building's neighboring business, Hello Gorgeous Beauty Bar, and its co-owners Tiffany McGee and Stephanie Hill. They convinced Klun to take a shot. "This space has the clientele to be good to us," said Klun, referencing how her store's name, Lake Effects, pays homage to its proximity near Lake Erie at both Put-in-Bay and Huron. The boutique caters to women, selling elevated, casual clothing and accessories. This would include sweaters, knitted skirts and tops, jackets and coats, cold-weather accessories, jewelry, bags and more. "I am always looking to provide a curated collection of high-quality and elevated looks that are on trend," Klun said. "I felt there was a void locally here, and that is where I can provide some elevated looks that are on trend but not too on trend that would rule anyone out from wearing what I offer." Right now, the boutique stays open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. On certain days, it might extend hours until 5 p.m. Klun welcomes people to stop down, especially since she's marketing some holiday sales going on through December. "I hope that people can come in here and find something different. I hope they can find something a little more elevated, a polished look, and find some great gifts for people in their lives," she said. "It's a really special collection, and it makes it really easy to come in, do some one-stop shopping and get some gifts for the holidays."
