Feel festive at Berlin Heights celebration

BERLIN HEIGHTS — In the event's third year, Berlin Heights officials welcome people to — what they're calling — the biggest and best tree lighting ceremony yet. The public celebration begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday and happens along and around Main Street. Here's a schedule of notable events: • 6 p.m. — Santa will arrive on a fire truck, receiving a ride from Berlin Township first responders. • 7:30 p.m. — The tree lighting ceremony takes place. It'll occur at the corner of Main and Center streets by Edison Middle School. • Throughout the night— There will be several postcard stops at area businesses, organizations and gathering spots. Those working the event can answer questions and provide more details to attendees. "Each stop will offer an activity, snack, craft or gift, and you can learn about who they are and what they do," said village councilwoman Taylor Opfer, who's one of the event's main coordinators. "We would like to thank our local businesses and organizations for participating in this festive, family-friendly event." Opfer encourages anyone to show up for the event. "When we started the tree lighting ceremony (in 2021), we knew we wanted the goal to be expanding our community engagement," Opfer said. "We hope to continue the expansion of this event so it can be a community tradition for years to come."
