ALL-OHIO SOCCER: Heidl named first team, Normington-Slay headlines second team

Huron senior Chris Heidl concluded his high school soccer career with one final, huge honor. The midfielder was named All-Ohio First Team in Division III. He was one of 19 players to be selected statewide in D-III. Heidl totaled 35 assists in his final season for the Tigers, a new single-season program record. He also scored seven goals. Two area players were chosen All-Ohio Second Team in Division II: Perkins goalkeeper Noah Normington-Slay and Vermilion attacker Alex Werth, both seniors. Normington-Slay recorded nine clean sheets this season. He allowed a total of 17 goals in 18 games. Perkins went 15-2-1 and was a spotless 10-0-0 to win the Sandusky Bay Conference. Werth, who was chosen as SBC Most Outstanding Performer, scored 27 goals and dished out 14 assists for the Sailors. The lone local girls soccer player to receive all-state honors was Oak Harbor senior midfielder Hollie Robinson. She finished with 19 goals and nine assists for the Rockets, who were co-champions of the Northern Buckeye Conference in their first season since leaving the SBC. Robinson was NBC Player of the Year. The Ohio high school soccer season concluded over the weekend at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus. The most dramatic finish came in the Division I boys final between St. Ignatius and Archbishop Moeller, which made it through regulation and two overtimes tied 1-1. Ignatius won on penalties, 6-5, when senior keep Colin Monroe made a diving save to his left to clinch the championship.
