HomeGoods opens next week

PERKINS TWP. — HomeGoods, a nationwide retailer specializing in affordable home decor, intends to open its newest location within a week. The Sandusky-area store, 4020 Milan Road (U.S. 250) near Target and Dick's Sporting Goods, should debut on Thursday. It's going inside a storefront once home to Bed Bath & Beyond, which closed in late 2022. Executives originally anticipated the store, totaling a bit more than 21,200 square feet, opening in early 2024. Operating almost 900 stores nationwide, this marks HomeGoods' first physical presence in or relatively near Sandusky. The closest such brick-and-mortar stores are located in Avon and North Olmsted. TJX Companies own HomeGoods. It's a sister company to T.J. Maxx, which also operates within the Sandusky Mall complex. "HomeGoods is exceedingly popular, and we feel it will be a wonderful addition to the complex," mall spokesman Joe Bell said. It sells items in these merchandising categories: furniture, rugs, lighting, decorative accessories, kitchen and dining, bedding, bath, pet accessories, storage, workspace, outdoor, gourmet, wellness and more. "HomeGoods provides an ever-changing selection of high-quality merchandise at prices generally 20% to 60% below full-price retailers' — including department, specialty and major online retailers — comparable merchandise," the statement read. For now, the Sandusky HomeGoods will operate from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. "In celebration of its new store location, HomeGoods will contribute to the Sandusky, community by presenting a $10,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio," according to a company statement. "Second Harvest is the regional nonprofit committed to fighting hunger. Working together with a vast network to acquire, gather and distribute nutritious food, Second Harvest helps feed tens of thousands of people throughout Crawford, Erie, Huron and Lorain counties."
