Clyde-Green Springs strategizes

CLYDE — Clyde-Green Springs improved in some areas but decreased in others on the 2022-2023 school report card. The district's superintendent shares the reasons behind these results and how his school plans to improve. In this year's school report card grades — an annual assessment of district performance by the state's education department on a one-to-five-star scale — Clyde-Green Springs received four stars in achievement, three in progress, five in gap closing, four in graduation and three in early literacy. Last year, the district received three stars in achievement, two in progress, four in gap closing, five in graduation and three in early literacy. The superintendent of Clyde-Green Springs, Lucas Messer, said school officials found students who had fluctuated in and out of the school system due to the pandemic. The school system's leader said the district has a mindset of growth with students at the forefront. Progress within the district relies on this mindset to shape how teachers teach their curriculum. Additionally, co-teaching, inclusion and focusing on the student's needs is how the district was able to increase its gap-closing ranking. To improve their graduation rating, the district has put new programs in place including "Rise Up!" and the high school and the Bronze program for students attending Vanguard-Sentinel Career Center. These programs are used to help students meet graduation requirements through alternative pathways.
