Monster-themed run a success

SANDUSKY — The Lake Erie Film Commission's first monster-themed 5K run fundraising event was a success. Danielle Murray, the founder of the Lake Erie Film Commission and a Sandusky High School graduate, said 31 people participated in Sunday's race, which began and ended at Tony's in downtown and ran along the Sandusky Bay Pathway. Participants also encountered classic Halloween favorites, including Oogie Boogie, Cousin Itt, Frankenstein and the Cookie Monster. The Run, Scream, Run 5K was one of the final entries in the city's BooDusky series, which hosts Halloween-themed events throughout October. "My favorite part of the event was seeing the 5K participants getting into the Halloween spirit and combining that with the run. It truly felt like a collaborative effort," Murray said. "And I am thrilled to be a part of my two favorite communities, the BooDusky community and the RunDusky community. Happy Halloween, everyone." Winners in the women's race were: • 1st — Julia Mitchell • 2nd — Morgan Morey • 3rd — Maci Capizzi Winners in the men's race were: • 1st — Logan Johnson • 2nd — Justin Kaetzel • 3rd — Angelo Calderon At the end of the run, participants attended the Monster Award Ceremony at Tony's, where first- second- and third-place winners of the race in the men's and women's categories received trophies. A $300 cash prize was awarded to the best costume, and a 2024 Cedar Point gold pass was awarded to the raffle winner. Murray said is already preparing for next year's event, which people can find by searching for the event's name on runsignup.com. The signup cost is $25 and will increase to $35 in January.
