8-MAN FOOTBALL: SMCC, Danbury fall in semifinals

HOLGATE — St. Mary Central Catholic's football season ended with a playoff game Saturday night. The Panthers fell, 50-12, at Holgate to end their season. SMCC wraps up its campaign with a 6-4 record, the most wins the program has had in a season since going 6-5 in 2015. The Panthers scored a pair of touchdowns at Holgate. Chris Robinson returned a touchdown 18 yards for a score, and Reid Wikel caught a 39-yard pass from Grant Swain for the other TD. Holgate star quarterback Xavier McCord threw three touchdowns and ran for two more. The Lakers finish their first year under Brett Sykes with a 2-7 record. Toledo Christian and Holgate will play Saturday, Nov. 4 at Liberty Center for the 8-man football state championship. Toledo Christian won 20-14 in their first meeting this season.
