OneOhio leader up for challenge

Nelson It was Mike DeWine, as Ohio's attorney general, who decided to join with other state attorneys general in lawsuits against opioid manufacturers and distributors. As governor, it was DeWine who oversaw and gave his stamp of approval for OneOhio, the independent board that will coordinate and oversee the distribution of proceeds from the settlements, which is more than $860 million. DeWine's selection of Alisha Nelson to head up OneOhio strikes us as the right pick. She shared her views and background during an interview with Ogden Newspapers. She was working for the AG's office at the start and later had a stint in health care administration before rejoining DeWine's team after he became governor. "What's clear is that we want to abate and address the opioid epidemic, that is, the core pieces of how we were brought together is the drug company settlements," Nelson said. Endorse it all over again Issue 14, the city's rec center operating levy, won't raise taxes in any significant way if it's approved, no more than a few dollars a year because the library levy is expiring. It's been described as "a once-in-a-generation" opportunity to pay for recreation services at a modern rec center facility from an award-winning city recreation department, for just an additional $5. There's enough hard proof already to support a "yes" vote. City rec has stretched its limited budgets in recent years to consistently — year after year — extend out an array of innovative programming. Every dollar spent on recreation services to serve families and residents in every age group is money well-spent, in our view. Vote for Issue 14. Building Better Dreams It's worth repeating, too, urging voters in Sandusky to vote "yes" for Issue 7, the school's operating levy renewal. It won't raise taxes one dime, and it's essential for the district's future. Sandusky Schools has earned the support it receives from residents, and it has always been a good steward not only for taxpayers' money but for families.
