Jordan defeat a win for nation

This letter is to say thank-you to the 20-30 Republican U.S. House members who stood up to Trumpism by denying Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan the votes he needed to become Speaker of the House. Jordan's failure is a referendum on the bullying, toxic politics of Donald Trump. As pointed out by California Democrat Pete Aguilar in his nominating speech for Democrat Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker, Jordan is an election denier, subpoena ignorer, coup planner for January 6, and a lawmaker who has not passed one bill of his own in the 16 years he has been in Congress. His time has been spent attacking and agitating the opposing Party with little substance at tremendous cost to taxpayers. As Jordan prepared for a third run at voting on the floor, it was reported by news outlets that some of those who had voted against Jordan were receiving threatening phone calls, harassment through text messages, and even death threats. This is a page straight out of the Trump playbook. We can only hope a suitable candidate can be found to lead the House. The dysfunction caused by bickering Republicans is akin to that of backward countries that have little structure for governing. "We the people" deserve far better. Dennis A. Stout Bellevue
