BGSU's Terion Stewart has been tough to tackle

Terion Stewart was tough to tackle when he played for Sandusky, and he's been tough to stop this season with Bowling Green. Stewart, a 2020 Sandusky graduate, is No. 3 in the nation with 25 rushes of 10 or more yards. The 5-foot-8, 220-pound running back also leads the Football Bowl Subdivision in elusiveness rating, according to analytics site PFF. Stewart is first in the FBS with 58 missed tackles forced and is sixth with 4.77 yards after contact per attempt. Stewart carried 25 times for 123 yards in last week's 24-14 win at Buffalo. "I think Terion and the rest of the backs have done a great job complimenting each other," BGSU coach Scot Loeffler said. "I think systematically, we are doing things in the run game that are difficult on the defense in terms of combination of pro-style runs and all of the sudden we are an option football. Those are all difficult things that cause problems on a defense." Stewart has carried 91 times for 539 yards and four touchdowns this season. He has eclipsed 100 yards rushing in three of BGSU's last four games. The sophomore has two more years of eligibility available after this season. He has 1,246 career rushing yards for the Falcons, averaging 6.3 yards on 198 carries with 13 touchdowns. The Falcons (3-4, 1-2 MAC) host Akron (1-6, 0-3) at 2 p.m. Saturday. BGSU's defense is tied for first in the nation (with Western Kentucky) with 16 takeaways. "We give our opponents a lot of different looks and hopefully the quarterbacks keep throwing us the ball, we get the ball back, protect it, and if you win the turnover battle, you're going to be in great shape," Loeffler said. "It's fascinating. We are the worst in the country at giving the ball up and the best in the country at taking it away. So, we need to protect the ball better and we do that by being in great shape." BGSU will play three of its last five regular-season games at Doyt Perry Stadium, including its matchup against Toledo on Tuesday, November 14. "I think we are the only team in the country that had five road games out of seven, so yes it will be nice," Loeffler said. "It is going to be really great for the players in terms of rest. "We have been on a bus for six and a half hours coming back from Buffalo and three and a half from Miami. Those are late nights we are getting in, you're not playing at noon, playing at 3:30. So those are tough, and I am thankful that we are back at home."
