Perkins stays at No. 2 in state football poll

The Perkins football team maintained its position in the state football poll after a dominant 52-3 win over Norwalk in Week 8. The Pirates (7-0) are ranked No. 2 in Division IV for the second week in a row by the AP poll voters. They again picked up one first-place vote and sit just behind Clinton-Massie. Glenville (5-3), Perkins' main opposition in Region 14, remained at No. 7 after playing D-II No. 2 Archbishop Hoban closer (28-16) than any other opponent had this season. Perkins makes the short trip across town to Strobel Field on Friday night to take on 5-3 Sandusky. If the Pirates win, they'll set up an SBC Lake winner-take-all showdown in Week 10 in Tiffin. Columbian is ranked No. 8 in Division III this week, up one spot after a 43-12 win over Bellevue. The Tornadoes face Norwalk in Week 9. Perkins has picked up major respect each of the last two weeks from Drew Pasteur's Fantastic 50 analytics website, which has determined the Pirates to be the No. 1 team in Division IV in Ohio. The Division V state poll this week included two area teams dropping a spot despite victories. Oak Harbor is down to No. 6 after a 21-0 shutout of Genoa in the Rockets' firmest test of the season. They'll play at Eastwood in Week 9 and will clinch the Northern Buckeye Conference title with a win. Edison, which received the 11th-most voting points last week, is down to No. 12 in D-V after a 30-0 blanking of Port Clinton. The Chargers travel to Vermilion in Week 9 before hosting Huron in a battle for the SBC Bay title in Week 10. The SBC River Division frontrunners, Hopewell-Loudon and Tiffin Calvert, maintained strong position in Division VII. The Chieftains (8-0) are No. 4, and the Senecas (7-0) are No. 7. The state's top-ranked teams are: Lakewood St. Edward, Massillon Washington, Toledo Central Catholic, Clinton-Massie, Perry, Versailles and Marion Local. Marion Local received 19 of the 20 first-place votes in D-VII.
