BERLIN HEIGHTS — Nathan Hansen strived to create a business that not only provided him with a new career but also would assist his hometown in maintaining a squeaky-clean image. Hansen, a Berlin Heights resident who grew up in the village, recently launched a company known as Clean Can. It operates from Berlin Heights but serves neighboring communities, such as Milan and Sandusky. "I wanted to start this business to contribute to our community by keeping it clean and pleasant," said Hansen, a 2013 Edison High School graduate. "It's important, to me, that our town remains a place we can all take pride in," Hansen said. "At the same time, establishing this business is a way to provide some extra income for my family, helping us meet our financial needs and goals," said Hansen, who's married to his wife, Mariela, and they have two children: Nara and Mateo. "It's about finding a balance between giving back to the community and securing a better future for my loved ones." As its name implies, Hansen focuses on cleaning dirty trash cans. Hansen power-washes and then thoroughly scrubs bins to "ensure a pristine" condition, he said. "I've observed that trash bins often go for extended periods, even years, without receiving a proper cleaning," Hansen said. "This oversight can result in not only an unpleasant odor but also pose a health hazard. Addressing this issue is a way for me to contribute to the safety and cleanliness of other households."
