XC: Huron girls win Galion Cross Country Festival

GALION — Huron's girls finished first in a 19-team field to win the Galion Cross Country Festival at Amman's Park on Saturday. The Tigers' Jadyn Towns was second overall among 181 runners in 18:54. Rylie Towns was seventh in 19:27. Huron scored 72 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Liberty Center (86) to win the Division III crown. Also scoring for Huron: Lucy Watson (17th, 20:36), Claire Putman (26th, 21:13) and Liz Heidl (34th, 21:42). Edison's girls finished seventh with 184 points, led by Grace Anderson, who took third overall in 18:54.10. Maylie Weilnau placed 28th for Edison in 21:16.90. Aili Corfman finished 50th (22:13.70) and Zoey Corfman was 66th (22:44) and Mary Anderson took 69th (22:52.50). Danbury's Emma Redett finished 23rd in 20:54.70 while Maria Maringer took 46th (22:05.70). Edison's boys placed sixth in Division III with 185 points. Kellen McDonnell placed seventh in 16:33.70. Jackson Michaelis (17th, 17:15.20), Everett Gfell (48th, 18:17.10), Chase King (69th, 18:47.40) and Jacoby Valimont (71st, 18:51.20) also scored for the Chargers. Huron was eighth with 229 and was led by Sage Edgerly-Bork (ninth, 16:46.60) Jake Case (24th, 17:35.60) and Jason Nims (52nd, 18:20.70). In Division II, Bellevue's boys finished fifth with 127 points. Alex Lovins (15th, 17:44.70), Brock Meacham (17th, 17:48.50) and Blaine Cleveland (20th, 17:52) paced the Redmen. Perkins' boys finished sixth with 157 points. Keegan Dulaney (13th, 17:41.70), Blake Witter (22nd, 17:53) and Nick Coiffard (29th, 18:13.10) led the Pirates. In the Division II girls race, Perkins' Ellie Bodle led area finishers by placing eighth in 20:21.60. Alex Merriman took 34th (22:31.30) for the Pirates. Norwalk finished fourth with 113 points, trailing Lexington, Eastwood and Shelby. Zurina Immel led the Truckers with a sixth-place finish (19:51.90). Isabel Ott took 11th in 20:37.30 and Maddison Trenor was 19th in 21:12.80. Eva Hancock placed 30th for Bellevue in 22:09.10. Norwalk's boys were second in the four-team Division I field. Casey Kromer was race runner-up in 16 minutes flat, a new personal best. Alex Christophel took fourth in 16:59.90. PC's Morgan Wiechman 2nd at Genoa invite GENOA — Port Clinton's Morgan Wiechman finished second in 19:09.90 at Genoa's Battle of Turtle Creek. Maddie Wiechman finished 11th in 21:30.44. Tiffin Columbian won the team title with 24 points. Genoa took second (63) and Ottawa Hills was third (105). PC did not enter enough runners to score in the team race. Margaretta finished 11th (269) and was led by Macyn Phillips (26th, 22:43.60). Margaretta's Caiden Fultz finished 10th overall in the boys race, finishing in 17:28.09. Cole Morris placed 26th in 18:23.53. The Polar Bears took ninth in the team race, which was won by Ottawa Hills. Charlie Simpson led the PC boys with an 18th-place finish in 17:54.77.
