Update: Road reopens after fire

Update 8:03 p.m. Huron firefighters were called to a home in the 1100 block of Berlin Road Thursday evening for the report of a house fire. When responders arrived the fire was "heavily involved," according to Huron Fire Captain Mike Hohler. No one was home when the blaze started on the home's first floor. It appeared to have started in the kitchen, Hohler said. Two dogs that were in the home at the time of the fire perished in the blaze. The fire's cause was still under investigation as of late Thursday. No estimated value loss had been established, but it appeared as though the structure suffered heavy fire and smoke damage. Update 7:20 p.m. Berlin Road between Sprowl Road and the railroad tracks has reopened, according to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.
