Reggie the iguana to live at African Safari

PORT CLINTON — African Safari Wildlife Park has welcomed a new scaly friend. Reggie, a 7-year-old green iguana, will now live at the Port Clinton park after being rehomed from the Winking Lizard Tavern in Peninsula, Ohio, where he lived for five years. The Cleveland-area restaurant chain, known for featuring live green iguanas at each location since the 1980s, is phasing out the lizards from their restaurants and rehoming them to various animal-care facilities, according to cleveland.com. "Reggie is a total sweetheart, and he really seems to enjoy the company of people," African Safari Wildlife Park director Kelsey Keller said. "We are grateful to the Winking Lizard team for entrusting him to our park, where he will help our guests learn about animals and howto protect our environment." Green iguanas are native to Central and South America. The animal care staff plans on bringing Reggie out to meet with guests at least once per day; however, animals are often rotated for each presentation.
