Lightning streaks featured on Sandusky's new uniforms

SANDUSKY -- The Sandusky Blue Streaks will take the field this season in new uniforms. The school bought 92 new white jerseys and 92 new blue jerseys from Riddell, plus 110 pairs of pants in each color to outfit the team. Total cost was $24,000. The jerseys feature a block 'S' and lightning bolt on the shoulder plate and pants. "That's what our identity is," Sandusky coach Lucas Poggiali said. "We want our kids to know that when they go out on the field they're representing the school and this program. "We felt that it was important to make that a huge focal point with the new uniforms." The pants have lightning bolts down the sides, which resemble what the NFL's San Diego Chargers wear. "We're going back to the Coach (Larry) Cook days with the streaks down the pants," said Tom Sharrah, Sandusky's director of football operations. "Probably in 2001 or '02 we went with the plain white and blue and now we're back to the streaks down the legs. "We wanted to go back to that tradition." Sharrah said this is the first time Sandusky has purchased new uniforms since the 2012 season. "Any rips, we send to Riddell, they sew them and send them back," Sharrah said. The Streaks will wear blue jerseys at home and white on the road. The season finale against Port Clinton on October 20 could feature something different. "If we have a big game we'll wear all white on the road," Sharrah said. "But I let the seniors pick the last game of the season, what they want to wear."
