Doggy Daycare debuts in Sandusky

SANDUSKY — They show more pep than the high-energetic pups they care for happily running around their property. The Showalter family — spouses AJ and Adam along with their daughters, Elexa and Korra — recently opened up Buckeye Furry Friends Doggie Daycare, 2310 Cleveland Road (U.S. 6), across from Sandusky's Kampgrounds of America site. "This is not just a business for us: This is something that is fulfilling our dreams as dog lovers," AJ said. When shortened, Buckeye Furry Friends gets abbreviated to "BFF," which also translates to "best friends forever" — and that's how these four humans treat every four-legged animal entering their facility. "We really like creating a bond with every dog," Korra said. "No matter the service we offer, we want our customers to know that their dogs are in a safe and loving environment." Elexa echoed her sister's sentiments. The two, both Perkins High School graduates, actually convinced their parents to start this business with them after they would watch dogs as children. "This is a place where the customers can feel safe and comfortable," said Elexa, noting her family grew up around many dogs. "Dogs are cuddly and full of energy, and I just love to play with them." Buckeye breaks down as a daycare facility for dogs which also provides grooming, boarding, basic obedience training and more services. It accepts all different breeds and sizes. Each family member remains patient and treats all dogs with a kind demeanor. Pets are members of the family. To some, they are even like another child," AJ said. "We want to make sure every dog receives the same level of care as if they were still at their home." Regarding its grooming services, the Showalters brought on Cheyanne Steager. "She is fantastic, especially with dogs that don't handle grooming well," AJ said. "She is quick and precise. She loves on them, and that makes the customer feel even more at ease about leaving their dogs here." Once home to a lawnmower shop, the property features both inside and outside spaces.
