Biggby Coffee returning to area

PERKINS TWP. — Get ready for a big addition to Sandusky's coffee scene. On Monday, the proprietors for a new Biggby Coffee announced plans to build a new free-standing drive-thru building at Hayes and Perkins avenues (Ohio 4) across from Sandusky High School. It's located on the road's Perkins Township side. A Friendship convenience store and gas station once operated from this spot. The chain, which already operates in nearby locations like Lakeside-Marblehead and Fremont, serves coffee and various drinks. Franchisees Tim and Julia Johnson, of Vermilion, previewed what people can order from this location once opening in October. "We will offer coffee, teas, lattes, hot chocolate, blasts and a kids menu. We will also offer a food menu including bragels (bagel sandwiches), bagels, doughnut holes, muffins, cookies and macaroons," said Tim, who has two young sons with Julia: Colt and Case. Victor Kirallah, the Johnsons' real estate broker, extended his appreciation to Perkins Township officials, who helped put this deal together. "Biggby Coffee aims to be the community coffee shop that serves the community exceptionally well," Kirallah said. Many locals might remember a Biggby Coffee operated for a few years at Milan Road (U.S. 250) and Perkins Avenue in a plaza occupied by Little Caesars. It closed back about seven years ago. So will this new location have a better chance at long-term success? "I'm aware of the previous Biggby Coffee location in the area," Kirallah said. "However, as it predates my client's involvement and my own, we're not in a position to comment on specifics related to that operation. Our primary focus is on the current project and ensuring it aligns with the community's needs and expectations. We are optimistic about its success and the value it will bring to the area."
