New weight management doctor at Firelands

SANDUSKY — A new weight management doctor joined the staff of the Firelands Physician Group. Dr. Austen Smith is joining the weight management clinic at Firelands Regional Medical Center alongside Dr. Donald Cundiff. "Dr. Smith is an obesity medicine specialist, and focuses on helping patients develop a lifestyle to achieve and maintain a healthy weight," according to a Firelands Health news release. "His focus is on treating obesity and related comorbidities." Smith earned his doctorate of medicine at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine residency locally at Firelands Regional Medical Center. He also completed fellowship training in obesity medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts. "Medicine has granted me the opportunity to not only add years to a patient's life, but life to their years," Smith said. "I practice what I preach, and outside of work you can find me biking along the waters of Lake Erie, at the gym, or enjoying a healthy meal, such as salmon and beets."
