See the Squonk Opera

SANDUSKY — Those representing The Lange Trust of the Sandusky Library invite the public to attend a special Fourth of July event. Titled Squonk Opera, free shows are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday at 114 W. Adams St. in Sandusky It'll occur between the Sandusky Library and the Erie County Courthouse. If it rains, shows will take place at 125 E. Adams St. "Squonk's hand-to-hand show is an outdoor production that encourages shared discovery and participation while it explores the issues of scale and power," according to an event statement. "This musical spectacle is propelled by a pair of giant hands with the visible rigging of a sailing ship or hot air balloon and just as bid," it read. "The four-piece band that accompanies this joyful event will have you smiling." Stars and Stripes In addition to the Squonk Opera, an annual Sandusky tradition also returns on Tuesday for Independence Day. The Stars and Stripes Old Fashioned July 4th Celebration, sponsored by Civista Bank, will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 4 at Washington Park in Sandusky. Festivities begin at 8:30 a.m. with the Boy with the Boot 5K. Then, at the gazebo, there will be various performances, including at: • 11 a.m. by the Sandusky Choral Society • Noon by the Sandusky Marching Band; This is also when the children's bicycle parade will occur • 3 p.m. by the Anthony Culkar Polka Band There will be many vendors on hand, and children can partake in various activities.
